Week 42- We’ve dashed to Denver…and back!!!!

I am delighted to announce that we have finished our Denver Dash!!!  This week we clocked up 264.1 miles which meant we smashed through our goal of 8,830 miles in total – we’ve done it!!

I must admit to wondering if this was a challenge too far for us when I first dreamed it up last summer.  However, the Divas are a super-motivated bunch and have been really dedicated throughout. We’ve logged a pretty consistent mileage total every week, even during the winter, and believe me, it takes quite some motivation to drag yourself out for a walk or run here in chilly Scotland when it’s dark, cold and raining outside!

All in all, there were 23 Divas who contributed regularly to our total, and an additional Diva, Orla, who put in a fair few miles for us before moving back to Ireland.

This week’s individual milestones were Ruth G (200 miles), Tess D and Susan S (both 400 miles) and Ruby T (a stonking 800 miles)!!  Well done indeed, ladies!

Over the next few weeks I’ll be posting some of the Divas’ individual stories about their Denver Dash efforts.

Meantime, here are a few pictures of us from back in June when we started the Dash.

Finally, if you haven’t sponsored us yet, why not do so now at this link?  Thanks to all our sponsors so far for their support- it was a great motivator for us all!

Week 41: Poco a poco…

Buenas tardes todos!  I am writing this from sunny Spain- the Costa de la Luz to be precise.  Since we were so close to meeting our total last week, I thought I had better bring my laptop with me to update everyone if we made it this week.  Unfortunately we are not quite there yet- still another 100.62 miles to go!  We did 158.19 miles this week, bringing our total to 8,729.38 miles.  Oh well, there’s always next week!

Some personal milestones to report this week:  Massive congratulations to Louise J (300 miles), Fiona J (5oo miles) and Roz J (900 miles)!!

I will leave you with a somewhat gruesome photo of me recovering from a run along the coast last night.  It was still 20 celcius at 7pm… very nice!

Week 40: 4 seasons in one week!

This week the Divas have clocked up another 218.13 miles, and we now have only 258.81 miles to go!  Ooooh, it’s getting very exciting!!  I can’t quite believe we are almost at the end…

Unfortunately, it has not been great running /walking weather so far this week- we’ve even had snow!  I am still shivering after running in horizontal hailstones in a gale this evening.  Hard to believe that last week it was 22 celcius.  I guess that’s why we all love Scotland- you never know what to expect!  Here’s hoping the weather improves, to help us finish the challenge this week!

Happy Easter everyone, and stay tuned for our next update- let’s hope it’s a significant one!

Week 39: these shoes were made for walking…

The Divas seem to be going for a sprint finish, now the end of the Dash is in sight!  This week, we clocked up 283.1 miles.  We now have only 476.94 miles to go!!

A few personal milestones this week:  well done to Jane, who has now reached 400 miles!  And a massive congratulations to the incredible Nadia, who has now reached 1,000 miles!!

It seems only right to illustrate this week’s blog with a picture of Nadia’s well worn trainers- note the holes in the toes.  I’m surprised they haven’t fallen apart completely, given all the miles they’ve covered!

Week 38- Less than 1,000 miles to go!

Exciting news this week- we have only 760.04 miles to go!!!!!!!!   The end is most definitely in sight.  This week we did 259.9 miles, taking our total through the 8,000 mile barrier to 8,069.96 miles.

Big congratulations this week to Roz J, who is now over the 800 mile mark!  Well done also to Susan I, who has reached 400 miles- terrific stuff!

So proud of all the Denver Dash Divas!!

Week 37: many milestones!

Greetings from Edinburgh!  As our target is approaching, your blogmeister asked the rest of the Divas to make sure they were keeping their weekly miles totals up to date.  This prompted responses from a few Divas who had obviously been keeping their weekly totals under their hats!  As a result, we have a bumper 432.78 miles to report this week.

We have now covered 7,810.06 miles to date, with only 1,019.94 miles to go!

There are lots of milestones to report this week.  Well done to Elaine M, Emma H and Mags M, all of whom reached 200 miles this week!  Congratulations also to Liz P and Peggy M, who reached the 300 mile mark- great effort.  Well done also to Susan W for hitting 400 miles.  And finally a big congratulations to Ruby T, who has done a phenomenal 700 miles now!  I’m tired just thinking about that!

Finally, attached is a picture of Nadia A, on holiday in New York and continuing to clock up the miles Stateside!  She managed 55 miles last week, a combination of jogging in Central Park and walking everywhere.  That’s dedication!

Week 36 update- the joys of travel running!

This week, the Divas managed 148.55 miles.  We have now covered 7,377.28 miles, with 1,452,72 miles to go!

Special congratulations this week to our two farthest-travelled Divas.  Roz J has now covered over 700 miles- great effort Roz.  And Nadia A is now over 900 miles- incredible!

Nadia is currently in New York.  She tells me she plans to jog in Central Park!  I believe her- she has kept up her running and walking on previous holidays to Italy and Chile.

Running is a great way to see a new place.  And after 36 weeks of running and walking, I think we are all desperate for new routes! Your blogmeister was in St Andrews last weekend, and enjoyed two really nice runs.  One was round the Old Course, and the other was along the beach, in true Chariots of Fire style (apart from the heavy rain, which I don’t recall from the film!)  Running somewhere new definitely brought an extra spring to my step!
